Marshall Fenty and Jordan Seace were able to grace of with their presence to tag our mural with the event name. The entire mural was completed today. I am sooo happy with how it came out. I was a little hesitant about if our class could make this project work. But I'm proud to say that we did. CHECK OUT THE PHOTOS AND VIDEOS FROM TODAY!!!

This past Tuesday was spent working on the skyline silhouette for our mural. Black paint and pizza. Delicious. :)

Today was spent finalizing each committee's goals/ schedule for the event. We came up with the coolest slogan today in class,"Get off your ass...use your hands." How clever is that? We are gaining support on the facebook event page. I hope that we get at least 100 people to come out and support our group. I'm really looking forward to start painting the mural on Wednesday. This is going to be sooooo DOPE. I will be sure to post the photos.

Update on our fundraising

Hey all,
So far we have called and visited a lot of local businesses around Columbia College and so far we do have a couple of interested people that are willing to help out, we are still trying every chance we get to get our event out more to the public. If any of you have any businesses that you know of that can surely help out in any way that would be great, let us know :) remember to keep inviting people and encouraging people to participate in this life changing event! Thanks :)

UPDATE: We have a finalized concept of the final mural. It will feature a silhouetted skyline of Chicago, professional graffiti art with our organization's name, a border inspired by the classical art-deco architecture, and colored handprints from the community.

We were really lucky to be able to secure a wall on the first floor of 33 E. Congress, so that our hard work can be placed on a wall open for the public to appreciate for a long time!

MISSION STATEMENT
This project seeks to heighten feelings of community through the production of a large-scale art project.

CONCEPT
We as a group (with the involvement of Columbia College art students) will construct a large-scale mural that articulates Chicago as a city and a community. The culminating event will be an exposition of that mural, and will provide an opportunity for community members to literally “make their mark” by placing a handprint on the wall, along with a wish for the future.

MOTIVATION
As students and members of the community, we have often voiced frustration at our feelings of relative powerlessness over our future as individuals and as a larger society. The production of this mural seeks to empower members of the community by allowing them to take a hand in the manifestation of their future in a symbolic way.

FUNDING
Funding the project will be accomplished in a variety of ways. Short-term funds will be acquired of our own volition, while long-term funds will be acquired with the cooperation of local businesses in exchange for exposure.
